I am not suggesting that we compare tragedies in some sort of morbid and perversely callous pissing contest, as if a body count was necessary for understanding pain. Nor am I arguing that foreign catastrophes are covered at a disproportionately low rate because we just don’t care, as if America was a self-involved teenager.
